Volare Luxury Hair Dryer uses a real Ferrari engine

Hair dryers are typically nothing to get excited over.  I use one regularly, but when purchasing one I care more about the price than I do the extras.  Only one other time, besides this time, have I actually thought a hair dryer was worth looking over and it just so happens it’s from the same company as this one.  It turns out that Conair’s BaByliss line is bound and determined to stand out from the crowd, because they have yet another news worthy addition.  This time they’re putting a hair dryer up for purchase that is driven by a Ferrari engine.  Yes, seriously.

This thing will run for up to 2000 hours, which is a lot compared to the usual 500 to 700 hours of the average dryer.  The integrated AC V12 engine is 2200 watts and was designed to maximize airflow, have fast drying and even have a long lasting styling effect.  The turbo-shot instant boost airflow actually increases the airflow pressure by up to 15 percent.  There is a small compact version of the dryer as well as a medium size.  They come in black as well as the typical Ferrari red.  Unfortunately this is only available for the pro stylists out there and it’ll cost them quite a bit.  Each one is going for right around $400.

Strange but interesting Self-Burying Screw-In Coffin

Oddly I’ve had a debate in my own mind as to what I’d want done with my remains when I die.  I have the tendency to worry that cemeteries are going to end up taking up far too much space at some point and something will have to be done.  After all, people take up about 6 feet of space, which is fine, but that adds up.  In small towns it’s not a big deal, but in cities it makes you wonder if they’ll ever have to be dug up and moved elsewhere.  That situation may take longer to come around if everyone started using these self screwing coffins.

The coffin was made to cut down on labor and the amount of space the person takes up.  A small coffin is pushed inside of the screw, then it’s just basically drilled into the earth.  It’s purely a concept design by Donald Scruggs who was awarded a handy little patent for this design.  Hopefully the design has a way that makes it difficult for random people to screw the body back out of the earth again.  The design is a little bizarre, but it’s a happy medium between being cremated and getting a traditional burial.  Plus, perhaps somehow the top of the screw could double as a headstone.

Puppy Tweets connects you to your pooch

When I first got my pug I wondered a lot if he continued to whine and bark the entire time I was gone as he did when I was first leaving.  As a puppy that dog knew exactly how to make me feel horribly guilty.  This Puppy Tweets tag will let you know all sorts of information about your pet throughout the day.  Although instead of just listing the facts, you’ll be viewing incredibly sappy phrases to keep you updated.

Every single time your dog moves, barks or naps it’s automatically detected by the tag.  It has a WiFi signal that allows for it to tweet the information.  It has over 500 different sickening sweet phrases.  Things like “I bark because I miss you.”  Yes, they are very serious.  You can purchase the quick set for $29.95 in baby blue through X-Treme Geek.  You won’t have to pick up any extra batteries either, since the CR2032 button cell battery is included.

HTC event planned for September 15th – Desire HD incoming?

I’m annoyed. I am, in fact, annoyed for two reasons, the second of which I’ll get into in a minute, but the first is a simple one: our news section beat me to this story. Er, not that there’s any friendly competition between us, or anything, but that makes it 1-0 to them for today. So far, anyway. Vengeance will be mine.

But I digress…

The news is that HTC have some kind of launch event planned for September 15th, and have been sending out invites to people (I, notably, despite my incessant brown-nosing, never got one). And of course, speculation has been rife about what they’re actually going to unveil.

The most common conclusion is, unsurprisingly, the HTC Desire HD, the newer, even-more-ludicrously-overpowered version of the current bog-standard HTC Desire (although calling the current Desire ‘bog-standard’ is ironic given that it’s anything but, but you get my point). And this leads on nicely to the second reason why I’m annoyed, because I planned on swooping in, saying something along the lines of “ah-ha, no, it’s clearly the Windows Phone 7-powered Schubert, plebs”, being right, and stealing the glory for being right.

Except it’s not, is it?

If you do some fiddling about with the photo on the invite (the one with the smoke, in the pic on this blog post), then you get a clearer look at the phone hidden in the background. And the phone it most resembles (based on the videos we’ve seen) is the HTC Desire HD, thus cruelly denying me my chance to be a maverick, whilst simultaneously being correct, thus offering insurmountable proof I’m smarter than everyone round me.

I’m not bitter, honest…

Still, on the plus side, since it seems likely it is the Desire HD, at least that means we’ll soon be able to pit the two big screen Android monsters in the UK against each other. I’m really rather looking forward to the showdown between the HTC Desire HD and the Samsung Galaxy S, ‘cos it’s going to be epic.

But still, the lack of opportunity to be a grandstanding idiot is annoying…

Petal Drops makes rainwater collecting more aesthetically pleasing

For those who have a penchant for living green, collecting rainwater should come as second nature, but why bother to do so with a rusty old bucket when you can always spruce things up with the Petal Drops? This idea is made out of 100% recycled flower-shaped funnels that can screw onto any standard threaded plastic bottle, helping channel water inside whenever it pours from heaven. After all, you might as well make full use of those empty plastic bottles that will be chucked out eventually anyways. One thing though, empty bottles might not be so stable in the beginning, and whenever there is rain, it tends to be accompanied by some strong winds as well, so you might want to take note of that before dropping (pun not intended) £4.99for the Petal Drops.

Step-by-step guide to updating your HTC Desire to Froyo

HTC DesireA step-by-step guide to updating your HTC Desire to Android 2.2 (aka Froyo) has been published on the internet.

If you’re yet to get your update and are fed up with waiting for it read on because we’ve done a summary of the guide produced by the wonderful people at Pocket-lint.

We all know what’s great about the update: the operating system turns phones into Wi-Fi hotspots so files can be passed between phone and computers; offers faster connectivity; supports Flash 10.1; and allows users to store and install apps with a MicroSD card.

Read more about the great features on Android 2.2

And we all know what’s not so great: mainly that’s it taking an age to roll out and be made compatible with our phones.

So here’s the update lowdown…

First – find out if the update is available

If you have not had a prompt on your phone telling you this press the ‘Menu’ key at the bottom of the phone, then ‘Settings’, scroll to the bottom and select ‘About Phone’, then select ‘System updates’ or ‘System software updates’ and then ‘Check now’. It will either say you have an update or that it is up-to-date. If it says the letter, hit back and check your ‘Android version’ if it says 2.1 your network is still to provide the update, if it says 2.2 you’re sorted.

Second – back up your phone so you don’t lose anything

Updating to Android 2.2 could wipe your phone memory so make sure your HTC Desire is set to back everything up by going to ‘Menu’ again. Then select ‘privacy’ and make sure ‘Back up my settings and data’ is ticked. Give your phone time to back up before doing anything else.

Third – Back up your phone to you PC as well

You can do this by plugging your HTC Desire into your computer using a USB cable and copy your MicroSD card to a folder on your desktop. First make sure that your Gmail is synched to your phone by going to ‘Menu’ on your phone again and select ‘Accounts’, ‘Sync’ and make sure all your boxes are ticked and your Gmail accounts added.

Fourth – Accept upgrade

Go back to ‘Menu’, ‘Settings’, ‘About phone’, ‘System software update’ and ‘Check now’. Download the update over Wi-Fi so that it’s quicker and uses less of your data allowance. Wait for the update to run, your phone to reboot (possibly a few times) and your personal settings to be restored.

MotionTouch announces the complete iPhone accessory pack known as Mi-Life

iPhone owners will know that their smartphone is one device which is a hot commodity among third party accessory manufacturers. After all, being one of the hottest selling smartphones in the market along with its highly desirable design has caused many people to pick up protective cases of all shapes and sizes, not to mention design to make sure their iPhone remains pristine at all times. MotionTouch joins in on the game but ups the ante with their complete iPhone accessory pack known as Mi-Life. Mi-Life will bring together both the Mi-Power battery sleeve and Mi-Stylus, which we will learn more about it in the extended post.

First of all, we have the Mi-Power, a ground-breaking, eco-friendly iPhone battery sleeve. This means you no longer need to miss another important call, since it is actually a convenient spare battery that is ready to provide additional juice whenever the need arises. It can be charged from a USB port directly, or you can always take the greener route by taking advantage of its solar panel. The Mi-Power sleeve is capable of providing up to 1.5 hours more talk time for you , giving you protection against knocks and drops at the same time.

As for the Mi-Stylus this, precise, lightweight stylus allows you to use it on the iPhone without any problems whatsoever, alongside other touch sensitive products from Apple like the iPad. It is made out of a special composite rubber, where the Mi-Stylus’ slanted nib will imitate the electrical characteristics of the human finger, delivering a level of touch screen response which cannot be found in a traditional rigid-tipped stylus. Not only that, the edge of the nib can be used for selecting smaller on-screen items, which is something that a finger cannot do easily in select circumstances. With the Mi-Stylus in action, it will keep your phone’s display clean and smudge-free. The Mi-Life will retail for $25, while an individual Mi-Power sleeve will go for $20 with the Mi-Stylus costing another $10.50.

Cricket offers new Cricket EC1705 modem from Huawei

It seems that we cannot live without an Internet connection these days, and just about any new gadget that is released will have some sort of connectivity option to the Internet, be it 3G, 4G, WiMAX or Wi-Fi. Cricket Communications, a leading provider of innovative and value-driven wireless services and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Leap Wireless International, Inc., has recently announced that consumers who are interested will be able to pick up the spanking new Cricket EC1705 modem that hails from Huawei. It tips the scales at under an ounce, where this new compact device will be able to deliver connection ease for just about any laptop or desktop computer user who is currently a subscriber to Cricket’s all 3G network.

From this week onwards, Cricket will deliver the EC1705 device for $64.99. That amount is not all about hardware thought, as it will be paired with a variety of unlimited, all-inclusive broadband service plan options. When launched, the device will be available in Cricket branded retail stores and dealers in select cities including Chicago, Denver, St. Louis, Houston, Phoenix, San Diego, San Antonio, South Texas, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Baltimore, and Pittsburgh and www.mycricket.com, as well as being slated to arrive in all Cricket retail outlets in due time. This sleek-looking modem will play nice with the following Windows versions – Windows 2000, XP, Vista and 7, not to mention Mac OS X10.4.11 to 10.6.3 (both 32 and 64 bit) as well. Interestingly enough, the EC1705 is no ordinary modem as it will be accompanied by 32MB of hard drive space and 128MB of memory.

Depending on your daily surfing needs as well as budget, you can choose from a plan that hails anywhere from $40 to $60 per month, where all of them will be able to offer download speeds of up to 1.4 Mbps. Not only that, customers will be receiving the newly announced “true rate” plans, which will let you enjoy a flat-rate monthly service charge with taxes included, sans applicable local sales tax of course. Just make sure your usage level does not exceed 7.5GB monthly, but the average person will rarely exceed that anyways.
